(Sports Network) - Todd Reesing threw three touchdowns, including a
pair to Kerry Meier, as the 16th-ranked Kansas Jayhawks overcame a disastrous
first half and held on for a 35-33 win over Iowa State.

Reesing finished with 319 yards through the air and one interception on 18-
of-26 passing for the Jayhawks (4-1, 1-0 Big 12), who had been idle since
September 20th when it cruised to a 38-14 decision over Sam Houston State.

Kansas' Jake Sharp gained 79 yards on the ground and caught three passes for
107 yards with a touchdown. Meier finished with 125 yards on seven receptions.

Austen Arnaud completed 27-of-45 passes for 268 yards with three touchdowns
and one interception for Iowa State (2-3, 0-1), which has dropped three
straight contests. R.J. Sumrall hauled in a game-high 10 balls for 106 yards
and one score, while Marquis Hamilton caught two touchdown passes. Darius
Darks added six receptions for 84 yards in defeat.

After committing three turnovers and mustering just 93 yards of total offense
in the first half, the Jayhawks put together an exceptional third quarter to
erase a 20-point deficit. Reesing found Sharp for a 67-yard TD and Angus
Quigley's one-yard scoring plunge inched Kansas closer at 20-14. The visitors
grabbed the lead for good following another quick three-and-out by the
Cyclones on a Meier 23-yard touchdown catch from Reesing with 1:46 left in the
frame.

KU then took advantage of a costly interception, and Sharp's two-yard TD run
made it 28-20 with 9:23 to play in the fourth.

Iowa State's offense finally awoke from its slumber, orchestrating a six-play,
60-yard drive that ended with a 22-yard TD pass from Arnaud to Sumrall. The
Cyclones trailed 28-26 following a failed two-point conversion. KU, though,
responded on its next possession, as Reesing hooked up with Meier once more,
this time from 21 yards out.

However, the Cyclones refused to go away quietly, mounting a 10-play drive
that originated from their own 45 yard line. Hamilton caught a two-yard
touchdown pass to help Iowa State close the gap to 35-33 with 1:15 remaining
in regulation.

The Cyclones then recovered the onside kick, but the KU defense tightened up,
forcing Arnaud to throw four straight incompletions.

"The last series right there was pretty dismal," said Iowa State head coach
Gene Chizik. "We couldn't connect. We were dropping balls and were just very
sloppy. We had a couple of times where we really should have been able to get
some yards and make some plays at critical times in the game."

With the victory, Kansas tied the third-biggest comeback in school history.

A 16-yard run by Alexander Robinson and an eight-yard pass from Arnaud to
Hamilton staked Iowa State to a 14-0 first quarter lead. The Cyclones
continued to control the game in the second, padding their lead on a pair of
Grant Mahoney field goals.

"They did a nice job," said Kansas head coach Mark Mangino on Iowa State
controlling the tempo in the first half. "I liked some of things they did in
the pass game. I noticed that in their first four games they were close to
getting things going. They made good work of their week off. They really have
some talented kids and they are a team to be reckoned with in the future of
this conference."


Game Notes

Kansas racked up 343 yards after the break...The Jayhawks own a 48-34-6 series
lead over the Cyclones...The win was KU's fifth straight on the road in
conference play.
