Pell City, AL - Another gambling hall has been raided. This time it happened in St. Clair County. The hall is hidden away in a rural neighborhood just outside of Pell City.

It adds up to twelve electronic gaming machines gone bust. Money goes in. If someone hits a jackpot a token comes out instead of cash. Seventy-eight hundred dollars in possible pay-out cash was also found by an undercover team. It's all evidence in the case involving 53-year old Shelton Myrick. He's charged with possession of gaming devices and promoting gambling. The raid happened Friday night in a small building on family lane.

According to Jonathan Moore, "They came in here and broke up a family dinner is what we were having."

Sheriff Terry Surles says the food was for sale. Moore admits there was gambling, too.

He adds, "But it's not like we were open to the public and inviting people to come in here and gamble."

Moore says on average seven or eight people attend regular poker night events.

He explains, "We sit around, we play a little bit of texas hold 'em and if you want to you can play some of these machines."

He says the building brings the street together as a place for birthday parties, family gatherings and gambling.

According to Moore, "I mean if you came in and you were friends of the family and you knew everybody... and knew what you were doing then you could play if you wanted to... but that's not something that was advertised."

The old machines probably came from a junk dealer. They'll be destroyed after the case goes to trial.

This is crazy.  The state is more worried about gambling.  I bet everyone of those idiots ride to Mississippi and gamble.  I agree with Ross, if you want to stop the gambling then stop everything. No more raffle tickets being sold, no more silent auctions, nothing.    Next thing you know they will be raiding people's home looking to see if they are playing card games such as Texas Hold 'EM ; "21" ; etc.....

Get a life and start worring about the more serious problems such as the education, the crime, homeless people.  I mean just in Birmingham today alone they had 3 seperate shootings.
