T-Mobile this week announced the G1, an "iPhone killer" with an operating system designed by Google. The phone is missing some applications- including a video player, which is common on most phones. Google says it's leaving a lot of software development up to third party companies, instead of designing all applications itself. T-Mobile's 3G network is not finished in Birmingham, but the G1 works on the company's Edge network.
Scientists in Europe have taken the Large Hadron Collider offline. The LHC uses proton beams to unlock information about the basic building blocks of the universe. It's developed some mechanical problems, and will be offline until at least April.
Psychologists uncovered a disturbing pattern in computer use. In a recent test, they had students use computers that got periodic popup messages. One of them warned students that clicking OK would install malware on their computer. Most students clicked OK anyway. Some commented that they just wanted the popup out of the way so they could keep working.
