To educate, entertain and enrich the lives of children through the magic of professional theater. That's the mission statement at Birmingham Children's Theatre.
The non-profit theatre was founded in 1947, it has grown to be one of the nation's largest professional theatre's. Each season it produces 7 to 8 shows, usually based on familiar children's stories. And with touring, field trips and public performances the theatre's productions reach over 200,000 children a year.
But, the primary goal of Birmingham Children's Theatre is to encourage young people to learn. Each stage play comes with a 10 to 12 page study guide for teachers and parents, and it's based on the State of Alabama's curriculum standards.
Birmingham Children's Theatre's new season begins on October 4th.
