The Jonathan Bass House in Leeds is as historic as it is stately. The Civil War era home sits along the old stage coach route that ran from Montevallo to Ashville and is now Highway 119.
The House was built in 1863 by Jonathan Bass for his bride Ruteria Watson. The couple had ten children, and the house was passed down to family members. The historic home was finally acquired by the Leeds Historical Society in 2003.
It has now become a hall of memories and a place to honor leeds most outstanding citizens. Including three medal of honor winners, two alabama poet laureates, and a former Miss Alabama. Also featured is major league batting chanmp Harry "the Hat" Walker, and Leeds favorite son, Charles Barkley. Sir Charles donated one of his high school jerseys, and one that he wore on the Olympic gold "Dream Team."
Recently, the Jonathan Bass house received an important honor. It is now on the National Register of Historic Places, and is officially a museum.
