Birmingham, AL - When two women lost their babies, they found each other as friends.
Now are helping each other, and want to help even more people through the Amelia Center.
Loni Hodge says, "It's just a way to show people these are our kids."
These mothers proudly wear the image of their babies actual feet.
Loni tells us, "She actually had a chromosome abnormality called Triploidy. It means instead of 46 chromosomes, she had 69 for whatever reason babies with it don't make it.."
Through their losses, a mission was born to help others.
Abby Nicholas. "Loni and I decided to do the run to support the Amelia Center, we both had a loss. I lost twin boys at 22 weeks and I've been coming to the Amelia Center and we just decided we'd do something to give back to them. "
The two women met here at the Amelia Center... it offers free counseling to parents and children who are grieving... a death of a loved one.
Andy Mc Niel/grief counselor. "You'll walk into the place you see bright colors, It's about life. People who come here are alive. and are remembering people who were alive and they need to somehow keep that connection be able to hold onto those memories as well. "
It's supported by Children's Hospital and private donations.
These women wanted to give back and help other grieving parents.
Loni says, "After we lost Maddox Elise, that's when Abby and I met and it just you are in a place where you feel lost and hear... don't know what to do... having someone there to walk ... you and walk beside you saying Iknow how it feels I've been there I've walked that road God brings people into your life to help each other. "
Now they are helping by putting the baby steps race together at Tannehill park... hoping to raise money for the Amelia Center. That work is a labor of love.. and they want to show others there is hope through faith.
Loni. "It's hard it's long definitely not easy not fun, I wouldn't want to wish it on your worst enemy but there's hope working hard, prayer and having a good support system definitely gives you better days."
To donate or to find out more about the upcoming race you can go to Active.com and type in the keyword baby steps.
