Birmingham - The carefree days of summer are winding down.
"i'm just ready for him to get back into the activities and getting into the mix with kids," said Jason Jones, the father of a rising Clay-Chalkville second grader.
But Jones and other parents aren't ready for another potential swine flu outbreak.
"We have many concerns. We always teach him to wash his hands and make sure he doesn't eat after other kids," said Jones.
More than 5500 people have been hospitalized in the U.S. from swine flu or H1N1 flu.
In Alabama, there have been 801 confirmed cases and a Jefferson County death earlier this week.
Now, the Center for Disease Control is warning of a potential pandemic, so Tammie Jones made sure her daughters got a check up.
"I just hope in the schools and out places they don't pick up nothing," said Jones, a mother.
In schools, signs are going up and letters are going out to reminder students to cover the cough and wash their hands.
"Anytime we have an infectious disease in our community, we are concerned. We want to make sure the parents have proper information, as well as our faculty and staff," said Charlene Young, a nurse for Hoover City Schools.
And many parents and students got the message.
"They [the children] remind me. 'Mama, wash your hands, swine flu.' Anything you touch they're saying, 'wash your hands,'" said Jones.
