Grayson Valley - On 6/26/2009 just after 1 pm Sheriff's deputies responded to a wreck involving a fatality in the Grayson Valley area.

A Chevrolet Blazer, driven by a 16 year old male from Oneonta was traveling north on Watson Rd. A Nissan Maxima driven by a 16 year old male from Pinson was traveling west on Andrew Way.

The Maxima driver struck the Blazer on the right side. The Blazer lost control and veered to the left into a yard in the 2500 block of Watson Rd. A 67 year old woman that was standing in her yard was struck by the Blazer and killed. The Blazer then rolled once before coming to a stop upright. The driver of the Blazer was transported to UAB with what are thought to be non life threatening injuries. A 17 year old male passenger from Birmingham traveling in the Blazer was ejected and was airlifted to UAB with what are believed to be non life threatening injuries. The driver of the Maxima was not injured.

The victim has been identified as 67-year-old Renate Dahnke Easley. Apparently she was struck when going to her mail box to retrieve the mail.

Both 16 year old drivers involved in the wreck have been charged with Criminally Negligent Homicide. Petitions were signed yesterday in Juvenile Court for Criminally Negligent Homicide. The parents of the young men have been notified and have arranged to have them surrender on these charges.
