Jefferson County, Ala. - *Video will be shown Tuesday night at 10:00 on ABC 33/40 News and again Wednesday morning during Good Morning Alabama. The video will also be uploaded on this site Wednesday morning.*
Crime Stoppers is asking for anonymous tips to help detectives identify suspects in two new cases. Details are below.
Plasma Center Robbery: Surveillance video shows a man walking up to the locked door of a plasma center along 4th Avenue North in downtown Birmingham. The man told the manager he had left his keys in the plasma center earlier in the day, and the manager unlocked the door and allowed the man to come inside to look for the keys. Moments later, the man pulled a gun and robbed the place.
Surveillance video shows the suspect clearly. Crime Stoppers is asking for anyone who recognizes the man to provide an anonymous tip on who he is or where he can be found.
The video also shows a light-colored Dodge Stratus or Chrysler Sebring which was used as a getaway car. The driver, also a suspect, is seen on surveillance video outside the plasma center. Crime Stoppers wants to identify him as well.
"A thief or a robber will rob anything or anybody," Sergeant James Lewis said. "It doesn't matter if they're trying to help people or what."
Lewis warned of additional robberies unless the men are caught.
"That cash is probably about to run out. He's probably thinking, 'I got away with that one. I can go do this again,'" Lewis said. "Hopefully, we can get this guy off the street before he decides to do that."
Highway 78 Booze Bandit: This guy gets the "dressing the part" award. He covered himself in dark clothing from head to toe before using power tools to saw into a liquor store along Highway 78 in Dora, on the Jefferson County side of the Jefferson-Walker line.
The suspect is seen with a walkie-talkie in his mouth and a crowbar in his hand. The walkie-talkie was apparently used to talk to another suspect outside the store.
The man stole cash and cartons of cigarettes. He also went for the booze.
"They took six bottles of Hennessey, six bottles of Absolut, six bottles of Grey Goose, and six bottles of Crown Royal," Jefferson County Lieutenant Bill Musgrove said. "This is just real simple local guys who robbed the liquor store."
While we never see the face of the man inside the store, we do see his build. And detectives hope the suspect himself will provide an additional clue.
"At the detail they went through, they bragged to somebody about what they've done," Musgrove added.
If you can help in either case: You are encouraged to call Crime Stoppers anonymously at (205) 254-7777. Also, encrypted tips can be sent online by going to www.birminghamcrimestoppers.org and clicking on the "submit an online tip" link.
