Pickens County, AL - The dogs that may have killed and consumed an elderly Pickens County man, have now been disposed of. State forensics pathologists have the remains of 96-year old Israel Pope. They are trying to determine if the dogs killed him, if he was murdered, or if he died of natural causes. Pickens County Sheriff David Abston tells ABC 33-40 it will take quite some time, if ever to know the exact cause of death. Pope's remains were found Monday in a field about a quarter mile from his home. Investigators tracked down pieces of pope's clothing and what may have been his remains to the dogs.
