Funeral arrangements have been set for a Gardendale High School senior killed in a wreck this weekend.
Seventeen year-old Katie Burkett died in a car accident on Interstate 65 on the way to a family vacation in Florida. One of the other four teenagers involved in the accident remains in intensive care.
Burkett's principal, Dr. Anna Vacca, describes her as a good student who had hopes of attending the University of Alabama. She was also a cheerleader and president of her upcoming senior class.
"Katie was an outgoing person. Very much wanted to be involved in everything," Vacca said. "I talked with Katie's father just a minute ago and he said, 'you know it's hard to let them go, but you have to believe it's God's will. And that's the only answer you can give.'"
Visitation for Katie Burkett will be Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Gardendale First Baptist Church. Her funeral will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the same location.
