Not long after the sun came up, workers were at Homewood park, beginning the process of dismantling the skateboarding area.  They expect it to take them most of the day.  City leaders reportedly want the job finished as soon as possible.

The decision to tear down the ramps and other fixtures that are so popular with skateboarders came at a Park and Recreation meeting on Tuesday.  Officials cited concern over crime as reason for the move.

ABC 33/40 Talkback: Homewood Skate Park Being Dismantled

Johne, I have lived in Homewood for 15 years and KNOW the park and the area. I LIVED across the street for several years too. I have watched what goes on around there and I believe that you are mistaken about what goes on around there. As for the use of percentages, I was trying to give an idea of what amount of people were around. I am NOT against skateboarders. My son is one, but I did NOT let him skate over there unless I was there to keep watch. That skate park was not built for the whole freaking world. I know because I know the people on the park boards that wanted it but wanted it run right.
