A message from Birmingham Police Chief A.C. Roper:
"Who would have thought a minister would get killed?
We know there's someone who has information. Now, we're ready to talk -- and we'll never take your name.
The victims were the Reverend Hugh Harris and a friend, Adam Harvey. They were both killed late in the night on February 7th, 2004.
Harris's relatives said Harvey called him, asking for a ride home. The victims were at Harvey's home on Alemeda Avenue Southwest when someone came in and fired several shots.
Harvey was able to run and look for help. He was found on Jefferson Avenue and died at UAB before he could be interviewed by police.
As for Reverend Harris, it appears he struggled with the killer before he was shot. Also, his white Buick Roadmaster was taken and was later found along Avenue B in Ensley.
Harris was the pastor of Saint Matthew AME Church in the Oxmoor area. The congregation held a memorial a few days after the killing.
That's what we know. Now, we're asking for what you know.
If you call Crime Stoppers, we'll never ask your name. And Crime Stoppers cannot call you to court to testify because they'll never know who you are.
Just dial (205) 254-7777. You can also submit an encrypted tip by logging ontowww.birminghamcrimestoppers.org and following the instructions on the main page.
