Montgomery television station WAKA sat down with former Governor Don Siegelman this week. He says Karl Rove orchestrated his prosecution and says he should be held in contempt for not showing up to testify before a House Judiciary Committee Thursday.
Siegelman says, "No person should be above the law. There's nothing in the constitution that says just because you worked for the President you get to disobey the law and don't show up for subpoenas. There is no reason why Karl Rove should not be made to appear before Congress." Siegelman spent 9 months in prison for his conviction on bribery and conspiracy charges. He was released in March while he appeals his case to the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals. More paperwork is due to the court at the end of the month. There's no time table for a decision to be made. Siegelman says even if the courts don't rule in his favor he's not afraid to go back to prison. "It would hurt to be away from my family and to lose my freedom again. I spent nine months in a federal prison because of Karl Rove. I am hopeful and I believe the 11th Circuit will set this wrong to right."
