Around 10:30 pm Friday night Deputies were dispatched to the 7000 block of Cavern Road where a 1984 blue 4 door Ford Taurus had been reported to have left the roadway.
The Taurus landed nose first into a large ditch, then flipped and rolled until it came to a rest on the driver's side in the driveway of 7026 Cavern Road. The three occupants were trapped inside.
Center Point Fire Department arrived on the scene and had to remove the roof of the vehicle to free the occupants. 46 year old Diane McCay of Pinson was pronounced dead at the scene. A second occupant identified as her 54 year old husband, Marlin McCay, had severe head trauma and was transported by ambulance to a parking lot on Deerfoot Parkway where he was flown by Lifesaver helicopter to UAB Hospital's Emergency Room. A third occupant, Kenneth Robert Ferns, age 48 of Center Line Michigan was taken to UAB Hospital by ambulance.
It was reported that the three were on the way home from watching fireworks. The Sheriff's Office is trying to determine who was driving the vehicle and if alcohol may have been a factor.
