Riding to work on two wheels... it's how the staff at doctor Jimmy Davis' medical practice commutes to the office. The Talladega doctor says "I think the four dollar gas has got to them." Brenda Ragan is on his staff. She admits, "Gas is just astronomically high really, and a lot of people aren't driving as much." This group rides more, peddling eight to twenty miles, round trip every day... saving as much as $15 in gas every week. But in the process these health care professionals discovered another benefit. According to Ragan, "the exercise part of it for me has been great." Mary Stevenson agrees, "I thought my legs were in shape. You know going to the track every morning walking and running, but this bike will really strengthen your legs." If you are considering a bicycle commute there will be some challenges. First, it's going to be hot this summer. Also, expect to take a little more time to get ready for work. Davis says when he leaves home around five in the morning it's a little bit dark so light is an issue. Tonett Wells has a different challenge. She says "My biggest problem is hair and make up. I just want to make sure I look good and smell good throughout the day." A quick change at the office take cares of that. Doctor Davis, who's also a city councilman, hopes his two-wheeling staff will inspire the city to develop alternate transportation plans down the road. According to Davis, "I think they just need to have a bike and get started and try it out."
