The Alabama Board of Medical Examiners has ended its investigation of a doctor who worked at a Birmingham abortion clinic that was shut down for serious violations.
The board's executive director said Dr. Deborah Lyn Levich has surrendered her Alabama medical license and a related certificate. Levich is based in Georgia and is still licensed there. She was the physician at the now-closed Summit Medical Center.
Her Alabama license had been inactive since early 2007 but she could have reinstated it at any time.
The voluntary surrender keeps the board's findings from being made public.
Meanwhile, the trial of Summit nurse Janet King on misdemeanor charges has been delayed pending an appeals court decision.
