Shelby County - Today Shelby County businesses hosted a shopping blitz called "Spend 20 on June 20th."
County leaders said if every adult in Shelby County spent at least $20 in the same day, it would pump $2.8 million back into the local economy. The goal was to get people to shop and spend money during these tough economic times.
Some Alabaster shoppers say the stores were packed today. But one woman says there could have been even longer lines if more people had known about the campaign.
"I think they should do it more often, not just once a year to remind people to keep it local," said Caprice Lawrence as she visited a Shelby County store. "Then they could do a little more advertising, things like that."
Spend $20 on the 20th was organized by the Shelby County Reporter and local businesses.
