Anniston, AL - All week it's been warm. No, make the downright hot. But believe it or not summer doesn't "officially" begin until this weekend. People in Calhoun County are already finding ways to beat the heat
As the summer sun beams down no one can escape it... or can they?
Jaspar Maddox says, "i'm going in to beat the heat."
He knows where to go when the mercury rises. The Carver Community Center offers a cool air oasis until nine at night. Everyone's welcome.
Inside he says you'll find "Central air, you can sit down, look at TV, play pool and basketball."
Animals need to play, too in the dogs days of summer.
Kathryn Hill works with the Calhoun County Humane Society. She explains, "we try to get (the dogs) outside every day to stretch their legs."
Hill stresses it's crucial your pet drinks plenty of water.
She says, "A dog's temperature tend to be ten degrees hotter than a human's."
They need shade to offset hot weather animal aggression.
Hill adds, "I guess with everybody standing out in the heat would make any body aggressive now and then."
So for some people there is a lot to complain about during warm weather. It's hot, you're sweaty and the sun may even burn your skin. But there's fun to be had to and to find that fun look no further than your local playground. Kids flock to Freedom Park in Oxford.
But for the Boys and Girls Club high temps bring a summertime challenge.
Drew McCullars exaplains, "it definitely becomes a factor in what we do we don't want to have them out playing football or baseball all day long."
During hot weather his group travels by bus to the skating rink or library... but the absolute favorite is in the water at a public pool.
