Five Points West & Midfield, Ala. - In one case, a drug store clerk was shot as she complied with a robber's demands. In the second case, a woman at a shoe store was robbed by a man who apparently needed some money.
Now, Crime Stoppers has cash rewards if your tip leads to an arrest in either case. You can see the video by clicking on the "click here to watch" link next to this story." Case details are below.
Store Clerk Shot: A masked man walked into the CVS Pharmacy at Five Points West on the night of June 1. He told the clerk to open the cash drawer. She followed his orders. Even so, the man shot the clerk in the leg. Then, he grabbed some money and left.
Now, Crime Stoppers is asking for your tips to help detectives identify and locate the armed suspect.
"He's got to be priority number-one," Sergeant James Lewis said. "He's running the street with a gun, and we know now that he will use it. What we need right now is a name on this guy so the detectives can get him off the street."
While the suspect's face is never seen on the video, he may have already given himself away. Police believe he could be bragging about what he did.
"The fact that he has told someone, or someone knew he was going to do this, that's the person we're looking for to give us that call," Lewis said, adding that anyone who calls Crime Stoppers remains anonymous. "We don't ask you for your name. We don't have Caller ID. All we need is the information."
Midfield Robbery: Police are stepping up their efforts to identify and locate a man who is accused of a robbery inside the Shoe Show, just off Bessemer Superhighway. Surveillance video shows the man walking into the store, looking around, and then yanking a woman's purse off her shoulder.
The woman was knocked to the floor. While the man on the video may not have planned to rob her, police believe he entered the store with a crime in mind.
"I don't think he was in there shopping for any shoes," Lewis said. "And if that lady had not have been there, she may not have been his victim. The store may have been his victim. He was going in there to do something."
The video of the man is fairly clear. Crime Stoppers has cash if your tip is the right one. It just takes a simple phone call.
"Somebody out there knows who this guy is," Lewis added. "He's probably told somebody what he's done."
If you can help in either case, call Crime Stoppers at (205) 254-7777. Callers are kept anonymous, and Caller ID is never used. Plus, Crime Stoppres cannot call you to court to testify. Also, encrypted tips can be submitted online by logging onto
