Birmingham - Sunday storms caused some damage throughout the area. High winds and heavy rain ripped through Central Alabama flooding roads and knocking trees into homes.
A giant oak on Freda Drive drew a crowd in Midfield.
"I got a call and someone told me the tree fell, and I came around to check on it and this is what I seen [sic.]," said Thomas Gray who lives inside the home.
Gray left the house to run errands just minutes before the tree went crashing through the roof into a bathroom and bedroom where Gray's young nephew usually sleeps.
"If I hadn't left and gone to the store, I could have been in there," said Gray.
The only one home when it happened was the dog Baby who appeared a little shaken.
There were other storm victims. In Birmingham, a driver got stuck beneath a flooded section of 5th Avenue North and sat waiting for help as water rose in her car. Police got her out of her car safely.
But if the storm had hit a few minutes earlier, Gray knows that it could have caused more injuries.
"It would have scared me real bad. It would have caught me off guard, so it would have stunned me real bad," said Gray who could have been home.
Gray and his aunt who owns the home are still trying to access the damage. Fortunately, they do have insurance to cover some of the costs.
