Birmingham - On June 1, 2009 the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Narcotics Division, while conducting a narcotics investigation discovered information that Desmond Smith of Birmingham and April Henderson of Fairfield were arriving on a Greyhound Bus in Birmingham with illegal narcotics in their possession.
Both suspects were identified as they exited the Bus and both were found to be in possession of a large amount of Dilaudid (Hydromphone) pills.
Desmond Smith was found to be in possession of approximately 1,300 pills and April Henderson was found to be in possession of approximately 1,800 pills for a total street value of approximately $160,000.
Smith has an extensive drug arrest history going back to the late 1990s. This was a significant amount of illegal narcotics destined for the streets of Jefferson County.

Both remain in the Jefferson County Jail.
