A rally is set for 10:30AM Thursday at the Best Western, Birmingham International Airport to show support for security screeners wanting collective bargaining rights. They call it a solidarity stand... The American Federation of Government Employees say the Transportation Security Administration workers are facing morale problems and are treated badly. National organizer Leonard Mencio gave one example:TSA injuries in 2006 were 10% higher than the 4% average of any other federal agency. "The reason that that is happening is because they are not able to have any say at work as to how things are being done. even the adjustment of the conveyor belt to alleviate the bending down is something that is not acceptable.'" The TSA regional spokesperson John Allen says it would take an act of Congress to make the wanted changes. The AFGE is lobbying for the passage of HR3212 which would grant collective bargaining to TSA workers.
