Alabama's first alternative fuel plant has agreed to settle a lawsuit claiming it polluted a stream in west Alabama.
A federal court in Birmingham approved the agreement Monday between Alabama Biodiesel and an environmental organization, Black Warrior Riverkeeper.
The group sued the Moundville-based company last year claiming it illegally released vegetable-based oil and grease into an unnamed tributary of the Black Warrior River.
Documents show the company agreed to pay $45,000 in attorneys fees and damages, with more than half the money going to the Freshwater Land Trust, a conservation group. It also agreed to end all illegal released and obtain proper discharge permits.
