Jefferson County - Business for home builders has slowed because of the economy. But it's not slowing a group of them down in Jefferson County.
Those builders are constructing several homes in one week.
One will eventually be home to Vershundra Mearon who took ABC 33/40 through the construction.
"Here we have the living room area, they are doing some of the roof," she described.
There are people on the roof and in every corner of the home. Men and women pitching in to help.
"It means the world. It gives you a better chance in life."
The walls are not even up, but Mearon, who attends Jefferson State and also holds a job, will move in along with her twins Friday. All thanks to a lot of sweat.
This is also a new experience for the builders.
"We've never built a house in a week but we are learning a lot," explained builder Taylor Burton.
He says the economy has slowed his business, but it's only made it easier to find time to volunteer. But it is still hard to find people to help.
"It's harder to get volunteers. In this economy, everyone is strapped for money, so to get our guys to come our here to work and volunteer is a little more difficult this year."
But he says the Mearson's make it worth the effort.
"It's going to be home. That's the best part of it."
