Jefferson County - Obsessed. That's how neighbors describe 43-year old Darol Odell. He's the man Birmingham police say lead them on a chase through the streets of northeast Jefferson County after shooting another man to death, and before shooting himself in the head in front of his Tarrant home.
Police say Odell, a recovering addict , showed up this morning at a Huffman methadone clinic. When his girlfriend and her other boyfriend to show up that's when Odell began firing. Three people were hit including Dewayne Martin, who died on the scene.
Law enforcement chased Odell to his apartment along Springdale Road in Tarrant. That's where witnesses say he shot himself and wrecked his car.
Longtime friend Sugar Graham and other neighbors say Odell had recently shown them what he described as an engagement ring,but Graham says Odell had recently told her he was going to kill his girlfriend, her boyfriend, and himself. She didn't think he would do it.
The other shooting victim's injuries are not life threatening. The girlfriend was not harmed.
