Free Gun Locks in Jefferson County

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office is hoping to prevent crime and to keep children safe with gun locks.
The department is offering free locks and safety information through the National Child Safe Program.
You can pick up kits at the sherriff's departments in Birmingham and Bessemer, wherever pistol permits are sold and renewed, and at all sheriff substations.
There was a sad reminder of the dangers of unprotected guns in the home when a 4-year-old Birmingham girl died after she accidentally shot herself. Police say she found the gun in a couch at her home.
