Birmingham, AL - It's a big loss for some Jefferson County School employees... But the weight was worth it.

Jefferson County Schools' Biggest Weight loss Winners' received a big check today at Crumley Chapel Elementary School.

The first and second place teams brought in one-thousand three hundred dollars for school supplies for Crumley Chapel...

They charted their weight loss of 228 pounds during over 5 month challenge to get healthy.

Winning team member, Principal, Rebel Gray says, motivational came from team members and students.

Gray says, "Kids can be cruel they really can things like Mr. Gray you look like you've swallowed a basketball. I don't get that comment anymore . I'm sure other team members can tell you things like that".

A total of 292 Jefferson County school employees participated. Altogether, they lost more than 2, 800 pounds . That's about 10 pounds per person.

You know those free samples of medications your doctor may give you ..from time to time.?

Well some medical experts apparently got a problem with that.

Some doctors now argue that giving patients free drug samples not only does not improve access to medications but that it raises the cost of care.

The doctors cite studies showing that low income and uninsured patients are less likely to receive samples than insured patients.

And many doctor may take them for personal or family use.

Researchers say that companies recoup the losses from free samples through higher prices and a higher sales volume.

The study appears in the Public Library of Science Medicine.
