Medical experts point out five factors that may lead to a weight gain surprise when you think you're doing all the right things to drop some pounds.

Say... you have the main ingredients. Routinely eating healthy and regularly exercising. But the numbers on the scale add up... to a weight gain surprise.
Experts say in this case there are five factors that can impact your weight.
#1 Number One is sleep. Doctors still recommend seven to eight hours a day of sleep. Statistics show the average american gets five or six hours a day. Without getting enough adequate sleep, you may not be burning enough calories.
Dr. Drake says, "That can contribute to them being irritable not getting the maximum out of they're workout because they're sluggish and tired and kind of going through the motions".
#2 Number two is stress. And when you're tired, you may respond to stress as well.. when juggling responsibilities, coping with financial pressures and running around with busy schedule.
Some may reach for high-carb foods or comfort foods such as chocolate, chips or soft drinks... which contribute to added calories and more weight.
Stress also causes the release of the hormones leptin and cortisol.
Dr. Drake says, "If it's released in high levels we tend to put on weight in the trunical area... The abdominal fat area.
Leptin is responsible for eating and sometimes overeating that stress mechanism. That fight or flight".
#3 Number three is Medical Conditions. When you are fighting an infection, a disease or other sickness... And gaining pounds it could be related to your medical condition.
Dr. Drake says, "Related to high blood pressure, diabetes, sleep apnea... is related to having too much weight on".
Another common weight gaining condition is Hypothyroidism, a deficiency of thyroid hormone that can decrease metabolism.
#4 Menopause is the 4th factor that certainly may cause a change... on your scale.
Dr. Drake says, "Metabolism slows down, and estrogen levels start decreasing and they start putting on weight in the trunical area; where before may be putting in the hips area".
#5 Number five is Medications. Last but not least... Your medicine cabinet may hold the answer.
Some common types of prescriptions can cause of your creeping weight gain... medicines such as insulin, steroids, anti depressants, anti psychotics, heartburn meds and....
Dr. Drake says, "Certain class of blood pressure medicines, beta blockers are known to cause it alpha blockers are known to cause weight gain also".
