Online Tip Submission: www.birminghamcrimestoppers.org
Crime Stoppers detectives are asking for anonymous tips on two fresh cases.
The first case involves an alleged attempted robbery at UAB Hospital in which police say the suspect actually apologized for his actions and let the victim go. In the second case, a tattooed man was caught on camera breaking into and stealing from a convenience store along Pinson Valley Parkway.
In the UAB Hospital case, the suspect is seen on surveillance video roaming the halls and riding an elevator. He's then seen following a woman into a parking deck. Police say that's where he put his arm around the woman's neck and demanded her money. The woman said she had none, and according to a police report, the susect then apologized and said he had never done anything like that before. The man apparently let the woman go, and then he slipped away.
Even so, detectives want to identify and find the man in hopes that he will not perform such an act again. Anyone who recognizes the man can call Crime Stoppers at (205) 254-7777. Online tips can also be submitted by clicking the link above.
In the Pinson case, a man is seen on surveillance knocking out the glass from the door of the store. He is using socks to cover his hands instead of gloves. Also, he weilds a crescent wrench with his left hand, suggesting he is possibly left-handed.
The man is then seen stealing cartons of cigarettes and bolting from the store.
As in the UAB Hospital case, police hope someone will recognize the man from the Pinson case and call in an anonymous tip on either his name or his whereabouts.
The Pinson suspect disguised himself by pulling his shirt over his head. But he might be identified through the tattoos on his arms. On his left arm, cameras captured images of script letters. On his right arm appeared to be the image of a snake.
When you call Crime Stoppers, detectives will not ask for your name, and caller ID is never used. Callers are given code numbers and can use the code number to see if their tip leads to an arrest. If so, the caller qualifies for a cash reward.
