The chief financial officer of telephone company Embarq Corp. says the company may hand its wireless customers to another carrier next year.Gene Betts told analysts Wednesday that the company stopped selling wireless services to businesses earlier this year once it determined the enterprise wasn't growing fast enough. He says the company envisioned drawing 1 million customers but had only 112,000 after the first year. Betts says the company will keep those customers until 2009. Embarq provided the wireless service through an arrangement with its former parent company, Sprint Nextel Corp.
Embarq provides landline phone and high-speed Internet service in 18 states.
