Samford University was in lock down for about two hours Friday morning.
A security guard had reported that a man pointed a gun at him inside a parking deck. The security guard now says he made up the story.
Students received e-mail and text message alerts around 5:30 a.m. They were given an all clear shortly before 8:00 a.m.
The officer who made the false report will be punished by the university.
Homewood police are continuing their investigation. They do not expect to file any charges.
