Crews worked into the evening.. pulling trees off homes. It was shaping up to be a long night for Newman's Tree Service. "We probably be working until about 4 or five in the morning," Scotty Newman says. Storm damage is scattered throughout. At Lowes in Cullman, workers picked up overturned plant carts and trays. A light post sat propped up on a shed while other sheds laid destroyed in a nearby ditch. Heavy winds shook the building and blew out several windows of Standard Furniture. "It got pretty panicked," says store manager Red Wilson. Getting to a safe place saved lives. Bonnie Huffman and her family hid in the basement as trees- uprooted and knocked down by the wind- toppled over in their yard. "We're fortunate," she tells us. "Our damage is minor compared to what a lot of people's are." In Good Hope, Don Glasscock's house- as he describes it- is now "50% demolished," but he was more concerned with his wife. He called her from work to warn her about the approaching storm. She barely made it into a closet as six trees fell on and into their home.. "Sshe screamed and said, 'There's a tree in the house,'" he recalls. "The phone went dead, and I got here as quick as I could." Glasscock says his wife escaped unharmed.
