Jefferson County Commissioners met for about an hour Wednesday afternoon with the county's budget and revenue department heads. They reviewed where the county's finances stand half way through this fiscal year. It's projected the county will have a surplus of about $9 million dollars in the general fund by the end of September.
Commissioners say revenues are not as high as projected. They point to a decrease in the money brought in from the county's sales tax. Even still, commissioners expect every department to come in at or under budget this year.
The new fiscal year begins October 1, 2008. Commissioners will hold budget hearings in August and September before adopting next year's budget.
