Alabama Legislature Completes General Fund Budget

The Alabama Legislature has wrapped up work on a General Fund budget that increases funding for health programs for the young and the old and that allows most other state programs to limp along.
The Senate approved a $2 billion General Fund budget Tuesday afternoon and the House concurred in it Tuesday evening. That sends the budget to Gov. Bob Riley.
The governor's state finance director, Jim Main, expressed satisfaction with the budget for the fiscal year starting Oct. 1. He predicted that the governor will sign it.
