Hoover, AL -
So many signs peppered Veterans Park in Hoover.
"Sign says, 'Born Free. Taxed to death.'"
About 7000 people came out to the event. They want the federal government to read these signs and get the message.
"My sign says, 'Pork ain't kosher,' which I guess means a lot of this stuff just isn't right," says Stacey Gordon.
"This stuff" refers to- among other things- taxation, the bailouts, and the stimulus package.
"'Liberty is all the stimulus we need,'" says Terri Riddle. "I just feel like if the government stays out of the process that everything will turn around on its own."
"The stimulus stuff is supposed to be helping the American people," says Lou Rodio. "I don't see- it hadn't done nothing for us yet."
Which takes us from a sign like Kyle Richardson's..
""'Oh that? That's the money you would have in your wallet with a Republican tax cut.'"
to a sign like one with a picture of President Obama that reads, "Welcome back, Carter."
"This isn't the change I think people were trying to believe in," says Vincent Chiaramonte. "This isn't what American people want."
They say this is beginning of a movement- a movement not only to secure the future of America's children..
"I don't want my granddaughter to start off life with such an astronomical bill that she can't even fathom," says Susan Wiygul.
But also a movement to get the government out of America's pockets if only by one sign at a time.
"They're doing this for short-term. Yeah, it helps now, but it won't help in the long-term. It may make it worse," says Robyn Barnwell.
