Many families will be spending time outdoors this summer- and that can put kids in danger form the sun. They can also hurt their hearing while using portable media players. This week, the Tech Guy focuses on products to reduce those dangers.
The iHearSafe earbuds are simple protection against high volume levels on media players. They have an internal limiter, so no matter how high kids set the volume, their ears won't get damaged- possibly protecting them from high frequency hearing loss later in life.
Q3 Innovations this year released the UV Hawk. It's a tiny meter that can let parents know when their kids are in danger of getting sunburned. Simply enter the child's skin type and what SPF sunscreen they're wearing. The unit will count down the time the child can safely stay in the sun- and it also has readouts for temperature and UV index. Of course, it's also a good unit for adults who could be prone to sunburn.
