You can't do a lot with that pocket change that's in the center console of your car, or in your purse. But combine it with pocket change from hundreds of others, and over a little time, it can add up to making a huge difference in the lies of some people.
John Edwards, pastor of Hillside Church near Trussville, has started a pocket change ministry... He encourages his members to do as he does. He keeps a container at home for pocket change. After collecting it through out the week, he scoops it up on Sunday morning, brings it to church and drops it in a special red container. With a few dollars dropped in here and a few dropped in there, after a few weeks, it can add up to about 15- hundred dollars.
John Edwards wires the money directly to a church in Africa.
A recent trip to Africa moved the Edwards to institute the pocket change ministry to help a church in need.
Connie Edwards explained how she saw it there. "They have nothing they really have nothing they have no electricity, no running water they walk everywhere they go. No access to health care. " She took the time to minister to the people there."
Connie Edwards laid hands on the people there and prayed for them. She says she has reports, their money, ministering and prayer has made a huge difference in the lives of the people there.
Connie Edwards says," There's a need to help those around us here and we do... Our church.... Global issue... Jesus said to go in all the world and take the good news .. It's more than preaching God's word to them. You have to reach out and touch their needs."
If you have any extra pocket change, Hillside church will be glad to accept it to help the church in Africa.
