A message from Birmingham Police Chief A.C. Roper:
"How did a man from the south-side end up dead on the other side of town?
Back on Sunday, November 4 of last year, 51-year-old Scott Bbernstein was found by officers shot to death. He was behind the wheel of his Chevy Tracker sport utility vehicle.
The s.u.v. was parked along Cotton Avenue Southwest, right across the street from New Era Baptist Church. Bernstein had been shot in the chest. And we need some fresh leads to help us find whoever pulled the trigger.
Witnesses said they heard only one gunshot. What we need to know is whether Bernstein had any enemies.
Did he ever say he was worried for his safety? Was anyone else concerned he might be in trouble?
Nothing we do will ever bring Scott Bernstein back. But we can make sure whoever took his life will never take another life again.
So if you know anything about his final days, call Crime Stoppers at (205) 254-7777. We won't ask for your name. We won't record the call. And Crime Stoppers will not call you to testify in court.
Remember, you can also send an encrypted tip by logging on to www.birminghamcrimestoppers.org.
We believe you owe it to Mr. Bernstein - and to your community.
With Crime Stoppers, I'm Birmingham Police Chief A.C. Roper."
