There were plenty of people around. Someone has to know something about who killed Corey Smith. Now, it's their call as to whether that killer will receive justice.
Smith was gunned down on June 12, 2007. It was a bright, sunny day. Then someone, possibly in a minivan, fired several rounds and ended Smith's life.
Smith was only 21 years old.
Detectives understand there's fear of retaliation if anyone speaks up. The cops realize anyone who knows the killer doesn't want to end up dead as well. That's why Crime Stoppers will always take tips without using Caller ID or asking the callers' names.
The homicide took place in the 200 block of 23rd Street Southwest in Birmingham. Police have followed up on several leads, but so far, the killer has managed to remain on the streets.
It is believed Smith was killed by someone who he'd "had a problem with" for a while. Smith was having a dispute with someone in a minivan. Then the gunfire rang out.
Police believe the minivan was possibly light green or off white. The gunman is probably a male. What's missing is the killer's name or his whereabouts.
If you give an anonymous tip by calling (205) 254-7777, Crime Stoppers will not call you to testify in court. Detectives will simply give you a code number, and that way, they will never know your real name.
You can speak up while continuing to keep a low profile.
And whoever killed Corey Smith will be brought to justice.
Crime Stoppers is a cooperation between law enforcement, the Birmingham Regional Chamber of Commerce and ABC 33/40. Together, our goal is to give witnesses to crime an anonymous place to share their information. The result will be a safer place to live.
