Teenagers love to talk on their cell phones, but in Walker County Schools, they are not allowed on campus.
"One person got in trouble last week," says sixth grader Chelsea King.
Mickey Beaty says some students have found a new use for the phones: producing pornographic images.
There have been eight cases this year- two of which were videos depicting sexual activity.
"We have had closeups of male and female genitalia. We've had full body shots," Beaty explains.
The students were in grades 7 through 12.
"They think they're cool or whatever, but it's not cool. It's nasty, and it's wrong," sixth grader Allison Long.
It's also illegal. Beaty says for now the guilty parties end up in the alternative school, but soon the school system will start pressing charges.
"Since 2006, the child pornography laws in Alabama are felonies. So the kids could potentially have to register as sex offenders even at an early age."
Parent Jeannette King says that punishment may be too harsh.
"Parents have to stop their kids doing that, but criminal charges? it's kind of like awful."
Beaty wants more parents to get involved for the sake of the children.
"They are not aware of the consequences would be." The children simply push send.
"And as we know they may have 40 people on their list to send these pictures to."
Beaty and a rep from the Juvenile Court will visit each of the middle and high schools to discuss consequences of the phone porn.
