Walker County - The search has been suspended for a missing deckhand. It's believed Thomas Lindley fell overboard and drowned in the Warrior River early Friday morning. Lindley was part of a tugboat crew that was making an overnight run from Brookwood Mines in Tuscaloosa County to Gorgas Steam Plant in Walker County.
Lindley was last seen around midnight. His fellow members realized he was missing, when he did not go out on deck to help tie up the boat at the plant. By that point, the tug had already traveled 11 miles, leaving Alabama Marine Police with a large area to search. Sergeant Tommy Cagle said, "we patrolled the river, did that 11 mile stretch from where he was last seen to where they found out he was missing and didn't find anything."
The search continued until after daylight, when it was suspended. Sgt. Cagle said, "there's no point in putting any divers in and trying to drag. It's just too big of an area to cover." Marine Police say they will increase their patrols through that stretch of river for at least another week, in hopes of finding some sign of the man.
