Coaling, AL - People who live on an around Wire Road that runs through the Coaling community of Tuscaloosa County say it's really dog bite avenue. Michael Fannelli rides his bike home from work down Wire Road everyday. He says he's been bitten by dogs twice, attacked nine times and chased every day. He says dog owners need to keep their animals on leash or fenced in. Coaling's Police Chief tells ABC 33/40 that many of pet owners were asked to obey leash laws, but refused. He says they have been cited and summoned to appear in court. One lady Fannelli accused of being an irresponsible pet owner talked with ABC 33/40. Ruby Smitherson says she only has a little Chihuahua and "she won't bother no body." When asked if the dog would bite, Smitherson said no, "If she did bite somebody I'd take care of it. I'd put that dog in pound so fast you wouldn't know how it got there." Smitherson's dog did initially chase aggressively at our news crew, but Smitherson ran the dog away. She says the problem dogs are those up the road from her home. Fannelli says he just wants something done to may his bike ride safer.
