Eutaw, AL - In his first TV interview regarding a potential raid on 'Greenetrack', Sheriff Ison Thomas says he'll protect the operation from any illegal raid. Thomas says if the Governor's anti-gambling task force shows up without a credible warrant he'll exercise his authority as bingo regulator to block their entrance into the building. Sheriff Thomas tried to use Monday's interview to open communications which he says he has not had with any state official.. "If Greenetrack is doing something illegal, then will shut them down. If the task force wants to inspect the machines then we are willing, but to do try and do so without a search warrant is just illegal, " Thomas said. He reaffirmed his position and reiterated an independent company determined the Greenetrack machines meet the State Supreme Court's six point test issued in November. State District Senator, Bobby Singleton called on the sheriff to "...deputize..." men to help his deputies block any potential raid. Singeton says, "I will personally stand in this door alone if I have to...but, we will not let them in." The sheriff says he's hoping for a more peaceful resolution. "I don't want to see anybody get hurt. I hope the task foce, we can just sit down and talk about it so we won't get to a situation where Greene County deputies are bucking state troopers," Thomas said.
