Gadsden, AL - Cook-offs, concerts and quilters aren't exactly what you expect to find at a public library, however in Gadsden they're all a part of the "Soul of Alabama" series.
It's an entertaining effort to spotlight contributions made by black Alabamians. There are plenty of special books set aside too, although it's the soul food contest that's really catching attention.
Organizer LaShunda Williams explains "What we're looking for is somebody that can cook from scratch - not Ms Shubert's biscuits or cornbread. We want somebody that knows how to go into the kitchen and uses what they have in the kitchen to make good soul food."
A mini concert of spirituals will be held on Feb 9.
The cooking contest is Feb. 16.
A Gees Bend quilting demonstration is set for Feb. 23rd.
All events begin at 6pm at the Gadsden Library (254 College Street)
