Gadsden, AL - The price to buy illegal drugs off the streets in Etowah county is going up and law enforcement agents consider that a good thing. Recent drug busts reveal the street value of an ounce of meth has increased from twelve-hundred dollars to twenty-six hundred dollars.
The higher price connects to a decrease in the supply of meth in the area.
Members of the Safe Streets Drug Task Force say large suppliers from out-of-state avoid trafficing through the area after a string of major busts in the past year.
District Attorney Jimmie Harp explains, "We're hearing from the street it's just dry here. Which is a great thing for me to hear. I love hearing an undercover tape of somebody in Texas saying I won't come to Etowah County."
Smaller shake-and-bake meth labs are more common, but they produce smaller amounts of the drug.
