Crime Stoppers is asking for anonymous tips to help detectives identify a man who apparently put on a fake beard before robbing the EZ Pawn Shop along Bessemer Road in west Birmingham.

The suspect is seen on surveillance video from the morning of December 19.  Detectives say the man pulled a gun and made people get on the floor while he stole cash from the store.

The suspect is still on the loose, so detectives hope someone can recognize him from the video attached to this article.  Anyone who knows who the man is, or where he can be found, is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.

"I'm sure maybe he's bragged about it.  He's talked about it, you know, 'We were the ones that did the EZ Pawn on Bessemer Road,' or something to that effect, right before Christmas.  That's the person that we need to call Crime Stoppers," Sergeant James Lewis said.

Anyone who provides a tip will remain anonymous.  Caller ID is never used, and Crime Stoppers cannot call tipsters to testify in court.  Unless you tell them, no one will know it was you who provided the tip.

Crime Stoppers can be reached at (205) 254-7777.  Also, you can text 7777 to the word "CRIMES," and you will receive a reply that helps you submit an anonymous tip by text.  Or if you want to send an encrypted tip online, just go to www.birminghamcrimestoppers.org and click on the "submit an online tip" link.

All tipsters receive a private code number, and detectives will only know you by your code number.  If your tip is the first to lead to an arrest, you can use the code number to claim a cash reward.

Crime Stoppers is a partnership between local law enforcement, the Birmingham Business Alliance and ABC 33/40.  Together, our goal is to make our community a safer place to live and work.
