Forkland, AL - Forkland Mayor Eddie Woods remained in the Greene County Jail Tuesday after a Circuit Judge ordered his arrest. Woods is accused of misusing revenue from taxes levied on gasoline purchases. According to copies of checks ABC 33/40 obtained, Woods appears to have authorized the transfer of thousands from the Gasoline fund account to the city's General Fund account. Greene County commission had filed suit, claiming that by law the funds can only be used for road development, repairs and maintenance. During an interview last year, Woods told ABC 33/40 the city's general fund account was almost depleted due to financial restraints and a drop in revenue sources. His response was in regards to questions about several dumpstersfull of smelly trash behind city hall. Woods said that problem was due to an excessively over due bill with the city's designated refuse service. No bond is set for Woods on his recent arrest. At ABC 33/40's last check, a court hearing has not been set either.
