Negative Findings in Report on Birmingham Schools Removed
   posted 4:50 pm Tue February 12, 2008 - Birmingham
Several pages of negative findings in a report on Birmingham city schools were removed when copies were given to the public at a school board meeting. A local paper reported today that pages were renumbered to hide 20 findings in a think tank's report. The comments included: "no evidence of coordinated planning," "no sense of urgency or energy," "middle management bulge," and "inadequate financial analysis and reporting."

Michael Casserly is executive director of the Washington-based Council of the Great City Schools, which conducted the review at the school board's request. He said today the organization may not continue working with the city's school system as a result of the altered report.

ABC 33/40 News myTAKE - What's Your Opinion?Superintendent Stan Mims said that he was told not to make public the findings in the report.

Casserly said no one in his organization told school officials to delete about four of the report's 24 pages. He said school board members received the full report, which was also posted on his organization's Web site.

It?s all about the money folks. You have greed and apathy in the ?ham everywhere you look. There is plenty of money floating around for the ?leaders? to siphon. When this story first reared its ugly head I wondered why the masses weren?t protesting and waving signs at Sims door for literally stealing $175,000 annually from them. In his attempt to cover his arse all he?s done is invited even more scrutiny into a system that has failed to provide even the most basic lessons needed for success. Unless of course you want to show the children how to steal, cheat and lie to get what you can while you can. Here?s yet another reason why thinking people don?t want to be associated with this once great city.
