Montgomery - AT&T says misdialing was to blame when calls intended for Alabama's toll-free unemployment hot line went instead to the home numbers at two California residences.

AT&T Alabama spokeswoman Sue Sperry said Monday that some callers misdialed the toll-free number for Alabama's unemployment office by one digit.

She said those calls were routed to another 800 number that was once used by a private organization. The calls were then routed to two California residents who are connected to the organization.

AT&T has contacted the third-party company that manages the toll-free line to block any misdialed calls from Alabama area codes. Sperry said the California residents are also taking steps to have the number disconnected.

Linda Jahraus of Laguna Beach said Friday that 50 or more phone calls for Alabama jobless assistance rang at her home the day after Christmas, starting at 5 a.m.

This does not surprise me, AT&T is one sorry Company, I have been without phone service since Christmas, when I called in the out of service number they said it was my trouble and not their's, then I told them I had gone to the outside box and plugged in a phone to the customer jack in the box and the line was dead, then they changed their story. What really gets me about these lintheads is that when I called they said it was my inside line and that they would be out in eight hours and that it would cost me $85.00 and then when I told them it was their problem I was told they would send someone out the 30th and they did and we had service for one day and it went out again so I'm still waiting for it to be repaired. I should send them a bill for SERVICE NOT RENDERED, I don't see why I should pay to be without a phone for two weeks.
